Wir wollten die 8 Stunden Fahrt von Guatemala City in den Norden hoch zu den Mayastätten nehmen. Blöderweise habe ich mich auf den Taxifahrer verlassen, anstatt meiner Nase und dem Internet zu folgen, weshalb wir in einem vollgestopften, unbequemen Bus (zum gleichen Preis) die Nacht verbracht haben und nach 12 Stunden immer noch nicht am Ziel waren: der Bus war kaputt und musste regelmäßig vom Fahrer wieder repariert werden.

We took the 8 hours night bus from Guatemala City to the north of Guatemala to all the Mayasites. Unfortunately, we listened to a taxi driver instead of relying on other information like the internet.. we ended up in a broken bus, which had to be repaired (not only once) during the night, the seats didn´t provide much space and instead of 8 hours it took us 12 hours to not even reach the final destination.

Aber wir sind letztendlich in Flores angekommen und konnten unsere Tour ins Mayaland nach Tikal angehen. Tikal ist eine der größten und weitaus touristischten Mayastätten in Guatemala. Wir haben uns einer kleinen, privaten Tour angeschlossen mit dem durchgeknallt coolem Guide Toto, der uns eine alternative Tour geboten hat, abseits vom typischen Touriblabla.

But finally with a second bus we made it to Flores from where we started our tour to Tikal. Tikal is one of the biggest and also most-touristic Maya site in Guatemala. We didn´t want to take the typical tour and went with another guy and his private cool and crazy guide Toto. He gave us a great individual tour.
Tikal is in the jungle, the Maya temples are situated in the rain forest.

Tikal besteht aus Maytempeln, die mitten in den Dschungel gepflanzt sind bzw. sind diese mittlerweile vom Regenwald zugewachsen.
 

 

Of course you have to climb up these buildings, right? Normal tours probably wouldn´t allow this, but Toto does: we made it to places you actually shouldn´t go to.

Beim Anblick dieser Bauwerke muss man doch einfach hoch und rauf und rein, zumindest war das mein Gedanke.. Dank unseres coolen Guides war dies auch kein Problem und auch Verbotsschilder haben uns nicht aufgehalten. :-)






















Nach Tikal waren wir uns uneinig was bei dem andauernden Regen Sinn macht die nächsten Tage. Im Endeffekt sind wir beim Rainbow Gathering gelandet: ein Treffen, ein Hippietreffen, viele verrückte Leute, viele coole Leute und viel Love, Peace & Happiness. Wir haben allerdings nicht viel gesehen und mitgenommen, da es durchweg geregnet hat und alles ein Matsch war; nicht gerade optimal zum Zelten. Aber in Mexiko gibt´s das nächste Treffen, zum Wechsel der Zeit laut Mayakalender.

It was raining a lot and I didn’t do the 5 days jungle hike to another Maya site. Instead we ended up at the Rainbow Gathering. A hippie meeting with a lot of love, peace and happiness (Ermes, this already exists here, you can stop studying this subject!), crazy people and unfortunately a loot of rain and mud. So we only stayed there one night and kept going on. There is another meeting in December in Mexico and I´ll check it out again then. 


Semuc Champey - ein weiteres Highlight Guatemalas

Ein Wasserfall / Fluss, der durch mehrere Pools den Berg hinunter fließt. Man kann vom Aussichtspunkt aus das Gelände überblicken, aber auch im Fluss schwimmen und von einem Pool in den nächsten Rutschen => Video


 Semuc Champey consists of a river that flows down the mountain through several pools. You can see the whole area from the lookout, climb down to swim in the pools and slide from one pool to the next => video

In addition, there is a water cave you can visit. The guide gives you one candle each which you shouldn’t lose while climbing, swimming (with one hand of course), going up and down waterfalls and climb through dark holes to the lower level. It was a really interesting tour but sometime also hard and most likely scary for some people => video

Gleich nebenan gibt´s noch eine Wasserhöhle. Man bekommt vom Guide nur eine Kerze und dann geht´s los. Man muss schwimmen, kleine Wasserfälle hoch/runter/durchklettern und sich durch schwarze Löcher ins nächste Level hinablassen. War super, wenn auch krass, nur mit einer Kerze pro Person da drin zu schwimmen (einhändig versteht sich) => Video











Jetzt sind wir in Antigua (immer noch Guatemala), auf dem Weg in den Westen des Landes. Bald geht´s nach Mexiko! :-D
Uns geht´s wir ihr seht gut und wir haben nichts vom Erdbeben vor ein paar Tagen mitbekommen, sondern erst wieder durch deutsche Nachrichten davon erfahren.

We´re in Antigua now, heading west towards the border to Mexico.
We didn’t feel anything of the earthquake in Semuc and again I only knew about because of the German news :-)
